Pros

The Work Itself The technical challenges are real and the projects have genuine impact. If you’re a data scientist or ML researcher, you’ll find interesting problems to work on.

Kontras

Where It Falls Apart After several years in the organization, I experienced and witnessed a pattern of management behavior that I would describe as systematic undermining, micromanagement, and retaliation — directed not just at me but at multiple colleagues. Specific behaviors included: - Credit for technical work being appropriated or erased by management - Exclusion from professional opportunities following disagreements with managers - Excessive surveillance of calendars, travel, and meeting attendance - Unilateral changes to agreed-upon role definitions and responsibilities - Meeting structures deliberately designed to reduce psychological safety HR and Senior Leadership Response What concerned me as much as the behavior itself was the institutional response. I escalated formally and repeatedly — to senior management, to HR, and through internal mediation channels. In every case, concerns were acknowledged verbally but no meaningful action was taken. Senior management explicitly offered remediation steps and then did not follow through. Advice to Job Seekers Ask specific questions in interviews about how the team handles internal escalations and what happens when employees raise concerns about their direct manager. The answer will tell you a lot. If the management chain is tightly aligned with limited neutral escalation paths, be cautious.

Pros

I really liked my role at SAP. After being a cloud Customer Success Manager supporting strategic clients for several years, I moved into a group doing digital customer outreach including producing newsletters, release enablement, webcasts, documentation, event registrations, etc. Salary and bonuses were good, no complaints there.

Kontras

No real cons for the job that I was in, except that our group was eliminated by the corporate restructuring and reduction in workforce in North America in 2025. I would have loved to stay but unfortunately we probably showed up on a restructuring spreadsheet somewhere and it was determined that our services were no longer needed. We off-boarded most of our work to other existing employees (who already had full time jobs), which felt unfair to them, but that is how it shook out.
