Over the next week, more than 1,800 physicians will gather here for #IntuitiveConnect2024. It’s called Connect for a reason. The difficult and important work of advancing minimally invasive care must be collaborative. How can we use innovative technology to solve problems without first understanding what they are? Without first connecting with physicians from across geographies and specialties? Without first knowing their challenges and hearing their stories? Tomorrow, we Connect. Today, we set up the systems hall. If you look closely, you might spy da Vinci 5—the most advanced robotic-assisted surgical system we’ve ever built. Get ready to transform surgery together. Again. #WeAreIntuitive
The first time SVP and General Manager, Multiport Iman Jeddi, Ph.D. saw Intuitive’s technology, she “fell in love with the possibilities of what it could do.” For more than a decade, Iman has been part of Intuitive’s leaps forward, starting as part of our Quality organization and growing into a VP role, followed by a stint in Engineering and Operations, and finally leading our Single Port business unit before taking the helm of Multiport, which produces the da Vinci surgical system. Through it all, Iman has led teams with innovation at the center of everything. “I want to empower people to push on the borders of what’s possible,” she says. That innovative spirit took on new meaning when Iman needed her own da Vinci surgery in 2020. In the operating room, Iman knew that she was not alone. “I knew that everyone here—from the engineers who designed the products all the way to the technicians who assembled the products—had worked very hard to make this moment possible, not just for me, but for millions of other patients. That is what drives us at Intuitive, the possibility of impacting the lives of so many people.” Innovation at Intuitive is not for its own sake—the driving force behind everything we do is our customers, and the people whose lives they change. We are proud to be collaborating with our initial customers over the coming months as we install and establish their first da Vinci 5 programs in the US. Looking forward to learning what these customers value in da Vinci 5 as we learn from and support surgeons at these initial sites to generate additional data on the system’s use before a wider commercial introduction. How can technology and innovation enable hospitals to better coordinate care, improve patient outcomes, and enhance overall efficiency? Top perioperative leaders from Northwell Health and Sharp HealthCare joined us at #AORN2024 to walk us through how they’re reimagining the OR with da Vinci surgery. One key insight from Aaron Macoskey MBA, MPAS, PA-C, program director of System Robotic Surgery at Northwell Health: “We identified barriers in terms of system accessibility and the competency of our care teams. In 2023, we successfully integrated 31 out of the 34 additional systems into our operations. We provided training to over 125 members of our care teams and credentialed more than 40 new da Vinci surgeons. As a result of these efforts, we delivered equitable care to our patients and realized 39% programmatic growth in 2023.” Innovating our way to better patient care—that’s Intuitive.
