Intuitive has worked closely with customers for nearly three decades. The launch of da Vinci 5—our most advanced and integrated robotic system ever—is the latest example of how we listen to and act upon surgeon feedback. Our goal is to solve real and important problems with innovative technologies so surgeons can provide the best possible care to their patients. Andrea Pakula MD, MPH, FACS and Michael Paul Meara, MD, MBA, FACS are excited about how da Vinci 5 is transforming surgery. Check out what they had to say.
Lung cancer is the deadliest cancer worldwide. But does it need to be? We’re at #AATS2024 to help answer this question. In lung cancer, time to intervention is critical. Ion enables clinical confidence to get early answers and accelerates program impact. Ion’s ultrathin, ultramaneuverable catheter allows clinicians to reach small lesions in all 18 segments of the lung with more reach, precision, and stability. Our innovation doesn’t end with biopsy. Da Vinci 5 is the most advanced and integrated surgical platform we've ever created—designed to enable better outcomes, efficiency, and insights for the digital future. This is true across surgical specialties, including thoracic surgery. Lung cancer may be the deadliest cancer worldwide. We’re striving to change that. If there’s one takeaway from Intuitive at hashtag#AUA24, it’s this: We’re as committed as we’ve ever been to continuous innovation in robotic-assisted urologic surgery. It was our honor to sponsor the AUA Robotics Theater for the third year in a row. We also had the pleasure of introducing da Vinci 5 to urologists and sharing our latest innovation of Custom Remote Center, enabled by software advancements to da Vinci SP. For surgeons who operate with the SP Access Port or with a floating dock technique, utilizing Custom Remote Center may provide greater surgeon autonomy, seamless instrument exchanges, and larger workspace access and visualization. Michael Stifelman, MD, Director of Robotic Surgery, Hackensack Meridian Health said, “Custom Remote Center also took away some of the need to think about what is happening at the bedside and has allowed me to be more efficient and to have easier instrument exchanges.” Solving problems through innovation—that’s Intuitive.
The launch of da Vinci 5 is a remarkable achievement in Intuitive’s journey. We couldn’t have done it without the incredible work of our employees—including our Design team. Driven by a single, human-centered design ethos, the team made thousands of sketches and completed hundreds of prototypes and assessments to ensure a deeply complex design is seamless to the surgeons who use it. Working at Intuitive is more than a job—it’s an opportunity to be a part of something bigger, to apply your experience and expertise to innovative solutions that change lives. And for employees like Marketing Manager Lucas Zhou, it’s personal. The same month Lucas joined Intuitive, he found out his sister needed a liver operation. After a scary experience with a previous surgery, she was hesitant and afraid. But Lucas helped her look for minimally invasive options, and she had a successful da Vinci surgery in Berlin. “Intuitive’s mission means a lot to me,” Lucas says, “because I want to live in a world where everyone has access to high-quality care, to state-of-the-art surgical treatment like my sister had.” Watch Lucas’ video to hear his story and follow along as we share more stories of employees whose lives have been affected by da Vinci surgery. We hear about them every day—that is the reach of the healthcare solutions Intuitive makes possible, and the impact of every employee who works here. Are you looking for a career where you are as certain about your own growth as you are about the impact you can make on lives around the world? We’re at #AATS2024—the 104th Annual Meeting of American Association for Thoracic Surgery—with da Vinci 5 and Ion. Two very different systems. One surgical. One for biopsy. How can interventional pulmonologists and thoracic surgeons use these systems together to advance what’s possible in lung care? Just ask Elliot Servais, MD, of Beth Israel Lahey Health: “What we’re talking about is how we can use enabling technology like the Ion and da Vinci 5 to streamline the patient journey to make it efficient and safe. When you marry the best navigational bronchoscopy technology, which is the Ion, with what I believe to be the best surgical technology, which is da Vinci 5, you’re streamlining the patient journey.”
We're on the floor of our IntegratEd Experience at #IntuitiveConnect2024 with some inspiring robotic surgeons, who spoke about the value and their early impressions of da Vinci 5: “Anyone who knows me with respect to the OR knows I’m all about efficiency. How can we be more efficient as a team? That’s what we’ve been talking about with da Vinci 5. We’ve already seen improvements in efficiency. So that to me is huge, from a staff standpoint and for myself.” - Andrea Pakula MD, MPH, FACS, Simi Valley Adventist Health “Da Vinci 5 is another evolution. I’m a little over one week in, and it’s like being upgraded from business class—which is really nice—to first class. It’s an integrated platform. There’s more autonomy. And it’s not just autonomy you’re giving to the surgeon, but also to the OR staff. It brings confidence. It’s calming. It brings energy to the room.” - Laila Rashidi, MD, FACS, FACSRS, MultiCare Health Care System “Surgeons aren’t done. Even though we’ve finished training and graduated with our board certificates, we’re still never a finished product. That’s why I’m really excited about where we are today with da Vinci 5. The marriage of Case Insights and the ability to review my operative videos—we’re finally at a point where I can put data to the words I’ve been trying to articulate with my fellows for a decade.” - Mark Soliman, MD, FACS, FASCRS, AdventHealth Central Florida
The next generation, on our next generation. That’s Intuitive. #IntuitiveConnect2024
