Monarch's Sleepy Eye Rehabilitation Center and Assisted Living facility is a proud local sponsor of the twelfth annual Minnesota Governor's Pheasant Hunting Opener (GPHO), presented by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and Explore Minnesota. Each year, a host city for the opener is selected through an application process that considers available hunting land, event facilities, travel recreation opportunities, and last but not least—community support. Our Sleepy Eye rehab and assisted living facilities are excited to welcome Governor Tim Walz to Sleepy Eye, share in the celebration of our community, and support outdoor recreation opportunities. Monarch Healthcare Management recently celebrated the retirement of Joyce Gimmestad, LPN. At 88 years old, Joyce was Minnesota's oldest nurse. From 1953 to 2024, Joyce's nursing career spanned nursery, surgical, chemical dependency, and long-term care specializations. She says that long-term care was a personal favorite and remarked that it's changed so much since she initially entered it. Joyce has been an LPN at the Villas at New Brighton for the past 11.5 years and will be greatly missed by the staff and residents there. When asked if she has any advice for new and mid-career nurses in long-term care, Joyce said, "Always have compassion for the patients regardless of how they treat you." 🧡🧡🧡 Congratulations on your retirement, Joyce! And thank you for more than seven decades of caregiving (!!). You are an inspiration to caregivers everywhere! -- Joyce is pictured here with Administrator Katherine (Kathy) Holland and Chief Operating Offer Paxton Wiffler.
