Junior Sensor Validation & Test Engineer – Force/Torque Sensors
Location: Oerlikon, Zürich, Switzerland
Employment type: Full-time, permanent position
Start date: Immediately
About Bota Systems
Bota Systems is a Swiss high-tech company developing and manufacturing cutting-edge force/torque sensors used in robotics and automation worldwide. Our products combine precision mechanics, electronics, and software to enable robots to interact with their environment with exceptional sensitivity and control. Trusted by leading organizations including Tesla, Amazon, Apple, and top research universities, we are a fast-growing ETH Zürich spin-off.
Your Role
We are looking for a Junior Sensor Validation & Test Engineer to join our engineering team in Oerlikon. In this position, you will develop a deep technical understanding of our force/torque sensor products and take ownership of designing and executing qualification test campaigns and manufacturing processes. You will assess key sensor performance characteristics including accuracy, repeatability, temperature stability, measurement range, and calibration — and contribute to building and maintaining the test and manufacturing equipment required to do so.
Your Responsibilities
- Develop thorough knowledge of Bota Systems' force/torque sensor products, working principles, and specifications
- Design and execute qualification test plans covering accuracy, repeatability, linearity, temperature stability, hysteresis, and measurement range
- Design, build, and maintain test fixtures, rigs, and automated test setups to support sensor characterization
- Apply calibration methods and mathematical models (including linear algebra and regression techniques) to analyze and improve sensor performance
- Process and interpret measurement data, produce structured technical reports, and present findings to the engineering team
- Collaborate with mechanical, electronics, and software engineers to resolve performance issues identified during testing
- Support continuous improvement of test methodologies and contribute to the development of internal qualification standards
Your Profile
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, or a closely related field
- Solid understanding of linear algebra and its application to measurement systems, sensor calibration, or robotics — a background in robotics is a strong plus
- Some hands-on experience designing or operating test equipment, measurement setups, or instrumentation, even from a thesis, internship, or personal project
- Practical, hands-on mindset: you enjoy building things, debugging setups, and getting to the bottom of unexpected results
- Ability to write structured test plans and present data-driven conclusions clearly
- Comfortable working in Python for data processing and analysis
- Good written and spoken English
What We Offer
- A technical deep-dive into force/torque sensing — a niche and high-value domain at the frontier of robotics
- Ownership of a critical engineering function from early in your career
- A dynamic, innovative, and international team of engineers with deep expertise in robotics, precision mechanics, and electronics
- Modern workplace in Zürich-Oerlikon with state-of-the-art equipment
- Direct contribution to products used by the world's leading robotics companies and research institutions
