Pros

Amazon hires a lot of great, talented people. You have access to the resources of a huge company, and with enough buy-in, basically anything is doable.

Awful HR. Very hierarchical. No communication between management who sets goals and employees who work towards them. Goals are impossible to meet and short-sighted. No communication between different teams working on the same project. Bureaucracy. Stress-driven culture. People pride themselves on being stressed out. Hourly employees pressured against reporting overtime. There is active pushback against unionization. Executives are completely disconnected from the products and they blatantly lie to the team. There are huge teams with literally no function that just continue to exist. Managers pit employees against each other to work toward higher-level positions and raises. HUGE turnover rate. Managers hire their friends with no experience. People get hired over drinks to reqs that weren't even open.

You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
