      Pros

      Amazon is a great place to learn about distributed computing, scaling, writing web services, and learning rapid software development. It's not the sweat shop that a lot of people describe, and the company as a whole is not afraid to try new things.

      Kontras

      The perks can be better (no free food or drinks), and so can the benefits. From time to time, you do have to go oncall.

      You have to be self motivated. NO ONE will hold your hand and tell you that you're doing a great job. If you need constant affirmations from management, this company isn't for you.
