Happy birthday to our founder, Joseph E. Watts (July 18, 1840 – December 29, 1894). 🎉 In 1857, at the young age of 17, he emigrated from Cheshire, England to Lawrence, Massachusetts. As a skilled machinist, brass finisher, iron manufacturer, and inventor, Watts was considered a “jack of all trades,” working in the Pacific Mills to support the textile industry. In 1874, Watts founded his own independent machine shop, known as the Watts Regulator Company, which supplied machinery parts and fittings to local textile mills. In the wake of the devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake that hit Myanmar on March 28, Watts has partnered with Planet Water Foundation's Disaster Response Alliance to install emergency AquaTowers in the region. The first water filtration system was successfully installed on April 16 in Naypyitaw, with additional deployments underway in Mandalay and Sagaing to bring safe drinking water to impacted communities through community centers and hospitals. Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this tragedy, including our Southeast Asia team and neighbors in the region.
