Switching to a new platform often comes with a lot of risk. 🌊 Here's why Bob Taylor, CEO of Portsmouth Water, wasn't as concerned about being the first water company to switch to Kraken: "It was a manageable risk because we are working with a company that has a strong track record and has completed the best part of 30 implementations previously, all successful. The water sector may have a reputation for slow adoption of innovation, but that is changing. For example we are the first water company to be building a reservoir for 40 years. As a relatively small player we were willing to take on a challenge like that, and the key is to understand and manage the risks carefully." 🤫 Greg Jackson spills how a tech secret sauce helped Octopus Energy become the UK's biggest electricity supplier - overtaking British Gas only a few weeks ago. 🧠 "Octopus stemmed from a piece of software in need of a customer. Jackson, whose background was in technology, and two colleagues had the idea for Kraken and wanted to sell it to energy companies — a sector ripe for innovation. “The energy market runs like an old minicab office,” he said. “National Grid has a control room with people who dispatch power, like minicabs, and we need to move to a world that’s more like Uber, where you’re matching supply and demand automatically in real time using big data and AI.”
🎙 Yesterday while at Reuters Events Energy Transition, Greg Jackson met with Wood Mackenzie's Energy Gang podcast to speak about how we're eager to partner with utilities across the US market and how digitisation has the global potential to accelerate the energy transition.
