We’d like to take a moment during Black Maternal Health Week to acknowledge Denise, our Director of Women’s and Children’s Services, for her leadership on our Black Maternal Health Working Group to ensure equitable health outcomes. As a Black mother herself, and a Registered Nurse, Denise is committed to ensuring Black patients feel heard and receive the care they need in our Birth Center. We recently received grant funding to hire a care navigator who will support Black parents with connections to culturally affirming resources before they leave the hospital. We want all of our community members to feel welcome and supported – which is particularly critical before, during and after the life-changing event of giving birth to a child. #BeHeard #BMHW2024 #HealthEquity #BlackMamasMatterAlliance
We’re grateful for the compassionate support offered by our Child Life Specialists, like Taryn, who recently celebrated the end of cancer treatment with one of our teen patients, Ruby, at our Walnut Creek Medical Center. Ruby tearfully thanked Taryn for guiding her through this life-changing event. Child Life Specialists build trusting relationships with their young patients to help them understand their treatment in an age-appropriate way, while promoting coping skills to minimize the harmful effects of what may be a stressful experience. With young children, they might explain what’s happening through medical play and familiarizing the child with the hospital environment, while Ruby benefited from discussing her treatment with Taryn and creating videos to document and share her journey. Through our partnership with Stanford Medicine Children's Health, we’re privileged to provide care close to home for critically ill and injured children, as well as those with complex conditions. #ChildLifeMonth #PediatricCancer #PediatricCare #ChildLifeSpecialist Quick shoutout to Little Wishes for helping us celebrate Ruby with festive decorations!
