Emerging technologies in lung cancer. Robotic precision and human touch. Surgery and pulmonology in harmony. These are just some of the topics presented at Thoracic Connect 2024, which brought together over 100 thoracic surgeons and pulmonologists from across Europe and the world in an effort to transform lung cancer care. Lung cancer may be the world’s deadliest cancer, but we’re striving to change that—together.
Dr. Ali Jiwani explains why the continuous evolution of Intuitive Ion has made navigating to a suspicious nodule in the lung more efficient, faster, and easier for him. Designed to enhance reach, precision, and stability, Ion affords access to all lung segments, giving doctors the confidence to get early answers for patients. Ion is making meaningful improvements to the lung biopsy space and empowering pulmonologists like Dr. Jiwani to care for their lung cancer patients. If you or a loved one will soon undergo a lung biopsy procedure, it’s helpful for you to understand what robotic-assisted bronchoscopy is. After discussing all options with your doctor, only you and your doctor can determine whether a lung biopsy with Ion is appropriate for your situation. Intuitive is proud to recognize National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and to celebrate our employees with disabilities whose talent and passion drive Intuitive’s success every day. Leading our celebrations at Intuitive is Diverse-Abilities, the Employee Resource Group (ERG) for employees with disabilities, allies, and caregivers dedicated to ensuring that people with disabilities are represented, valued, and deeply embedded into the culture at Intuitive. For this year’s celebrations, the ERG chose the theme “From Bias to Belonging.” Last week, the ERG hosted Paul Gimenez, director of DEI & Belonging at The Design Gym, whose keynote focused on the neuroscience and psychology of unconscious bias. Paul provided evidence-based approaches to overcoming bias, emphasizing that as we commit to fighting bias, we should do so with “excessive humility,” seeking connection, and leading with curiosity. Jason Hart, executive sponsor of Diverse-Abilities, reflected on his own experience of bias: “We all move through the world with deeply ingrained and often unconscious biases. But curiosity and compassion are how we recognize and counteract our biases. They’re how we learn, and how we grow.” Intuitive is a company that relies on the uniqueness of every employee to drive our mission forward. Here’s to celebrating the differences that strengthen us, and the inclusive culture that helps all of us feel like we belong. #WeAreIntuitive
