This week, we are showcasing Venus, a former patient who now works for Cygnet as one of our Experts by Experience. After facing challenges with her mental health, Venus sought support and now helps others find hope in recovery. She engages with current service users, gathers their feedback, and communicates this information to senior staff to implement improvements in care. We've been celebrating National Apprenticeship Week 2025 at Cygnet Group recently, recognising the value of apprenticeships and showcasing our various programmes. Our Apprenticeship Team has had notable success, now offering pathways in payroll, resourcing, marketing, legal, and health & safety, alongside expanded opportunities in Healthcare and Social Care. This includes a business administration pathway with a medical terminology qualification for clinical secretaries. Recently, we also celebrated the graduation of another group of registered nurse degree apprentices. **Apprenticeships in Numbers:** - Over 80 individuals completed their apprenticeship in 2024. - 3 apprentices were finalists in our Staff Achievement Awards. - 180 new apprenticeships were signed up for in 2024. **New for 2025:** - We'll continue popular programmes like nursing, occupational therapy, and leadership & management. - A new Maintenance Operative Apprenticeship will be trialled with 6 estate colleagues. - We’ll launch the Quality Compliance Officer Pathway in collaboration with the Quality Team. **Movember, Men's Mental Health & International Men’s Day** Yesterday, was International Men's Day which aims to break down stereotypes, encourage open conversations, and build support systems for men to lead healthier and happier lives. New data has shown that one in five men aged 50-75 "hardly ever or never" considers their mental well-being, according to a men’s mental health charity. In response to these findings, Dr. Salim Matta, Cygnet’s Regional Medical Director (North), discusses why men in this age group often find it challenging to express their feelings. He also highlights key actions that men can take to improve their emotional well-being. Check out his article below. Introducing The Cygnet Journal! 📖 It's the first of the month, and we're excited to present the first-ever edition of The Cygnet Journal. This journal showcases our research, quality improvement (QI) projects, innovations, opinion pieces, and experience articles. As a peer-reviewed journal, it also aims to welcome discussions and special interest pieces from Cygnet colleagues. We plan to make this a yearly or bi-yearly publication, and hope that our second edition will encourage contributions from service users, carers, as well as colleagues from other disciplines. This will make it a truly collaborative publication that represents the views of everyone involved with Cygnet.
