Meet John Hicks, a Navy vet and Facilities Tech in the Administrative Services division. John proudly served for 10 years as an Avionics Technician. His role consisted of fixing and maintaining all aircraft computer systems, radar, communication instruments, flight controls, and navigation instruments in addition to inspecting the aircraft for flight and briefing pilots for takeoff and landing. “I worked on two different aircraft – P3 Orion and the P8 Poseidon,” John said. “They are the premier anti-submarine, patrol, and reconnaissance planes for long-range maritime operations as well as search and rescue missions.” John credits the skills, lessons, relationships, and network he built over his decade of service to the success he has today. “I stepped into the position I have now simply from the lessons and guidance I picked up from the military. I put forth the effort and applied it to my daily habits and have since thrived in this role. I would do it all over again in a blink of an eye.” Thank you for your service, John. #FeatureFriday: Meet Ashley, a committed Voice of the Customer (VOC) Rep in our Administrative Services Division. Ashley joined Citizens in September 2021 as a Customer Care Representative and, after just three months, transitioned to the VOC team, where she says she found her true “home.” She says being part of the VOC team has been a dream. “Instead of staying in my comfort zone, I am motivated to push beyond it and pursue my ambitions. I am encouraged to step outside my comfort zone and strive for my goals.” Ashley discovered Citizens through a family member who was also an employee. She shares, “I saw firsthand what Citizens does for their employees and the employees' families. The heart within Citizens is one of a kind, and I will always be thankful to them for that.” Her advice? "You’re here for a reason. Make it count, no matter your position." #FeatureFriday: Meet Michael, one of our Technical Communications Representatives in the Communications, Legislative, and External Affairs Division. He joined #TeamCitizens just over a year ago, looking to expand upon his creative writing background. Michael first heard about Citizens through his manager at a previous job. "She saw a great opportunity here and recommended it to me. At first, I thought she might be exaggerating, so I waited a year before joining. But after more people echoed her recommendation, and she remained insistent, I decided to take the plunge—and here I am!" When asked what advice he would give someone considering a career with Citizens, Michael said, "Don't be intimidated by property insurance. It may seem complicated at first, but the training you'll receive provides the necessary knowledge, and from there, you can continue to grow." “What I’ve found most rewarding is working with my team. #TalentTuesday: Say hello to Brittany, one of our Senior Data Science Analysts in the Financial Services division. Brittany holds a Ph.D. in physics from Florida State University, where she studied astrophysics. Brittany’s journey with Citizens began as an intern during her final year of graduate school. "I saw a job posting for a data scientist on LinkedIn, and after doing some digging, I found out that someone on the hiring team was also a physicist. I reached out to him to make a connection, which led to an interview and, eventually, an internship." Although a full-time position wasn't available after graduation, she returned a year and a half later when one opened up. "I was excited to find a team with similar backgrounds to myself doing data science work" When asked what she likes most about working at Citizens, she echoed a common sentiment among our team: the atmosphere. "We have a lot of awesome people who work well together and excellent leaders who support us." Brittany is currently participating in the Emerging Leaders Program. Great work, Brittany! #CareersAtCitizens: Meet Archit and Indiana, two of our IT interns joining us for the summer. Archit creates interactive and innovative PowerBI reports, works to improve and expedite outdated Guidewire queries, and explores PowerApps. He discovered Citizens at a career fair hosted at Florida State University. "I was inspired by the purpose of Citizens' work," he shared. "I am fortunate to join this organization as an IT intern." He's enjoyed his time at Citizens so far and looks forward to interacting with more people and gaining insights into the future of IT here at Citizens. Indiana is a low-code application development intern responsible for developing computer applications for Citizens using the Microsoft Power Platform. Collaborating with employees and other interns has been one of his favorite experiences. "Employees support one another and maintain a healthy work-life balance. I appreciate how easy it is to ask for help if needed." I am now a full-time Scrum Master and work with teams to enable them to adjust to change efficiently and effectively.” Throughout her career at Citizens, Jessica has earned multiple Agile certifications, such as Professional Scrum Master II, Certified Agile Coach, and Certified Facilitator.
