According to the CDC, heart disease remains one of the leading causes of death in the United States, with over 800,000 heart attacks occurring annually. Coronary artery disease (CAD), the most common form of heart disease, affects more than 18 million American adults and is responsible for roughly 1 in 5 deaths. “Early detection and precise assessment of CAD are critical in preventing heart attacks and improving patient outcomes,” said Robert Miles, Jr., MD, FACC, cardiologist at Cardiovascular Consultants of Southwest Georgia.

Archbold Radiology has recently earned the HeartFlow CT Quality Award for Excellence in Coronary Imaging for both the third and fourth quarters of 2024. The HeartFlow Fractional Flow Reserve Computed Tomography (FFR-CT) is a cutting-edge, non-invasive 3D imaging test that combines coronary CT angiography with advanced computer modeling to assess the severity of coronary artery disease. This technology helps predict the potential benefits of revascularization procedures—such as coronary stents and bypass surgery—and plays a crucial role in guiding treatment decisions for patients with known or suspected coronary artery disease. “We are proud that this test is making a difference in our patients’ lives,” said Becky Jense, Director of Radiology at Archbold. “To have launched this program in July 2024 and already received this award twice is a testament to the dedication and commitment of our staff to delivering high-quality patient care.”
Archbold Brooks is pleased to announce the promotion of Kortney Adams Thomas, RN, MSN, to Administrator and Director of Nursing.
Dr. Nicholas Richardson, orthopedic surgeon at Archbold Orthopedics, has introduced a new method for robotic-assisted hip and knee replacement—Mako SmartRobotics. Mako SmartRobotics Technology integrates 3D modeling and robotic arm technology during joint replacement surgery to allow for a more predictable procedure and a faster recovery. Throughout the process, the Mako system allows surgeons to create informed patient-specific plans, place implants with precision, and put patients on the most efficient road to recovery. “The Mako system has been shown to protect healthy bone and tissue, lessen pain during recovery, shorten hospital stays, and raise patient satisfaction compared to manual surgery,” said Richardson.
Archbold Orthopedics hosted an open house earlier this week for medical staff and board members, allowing them to come tour the new facility and meet the staff. Archbold Orthopedics, an Archbold Medical Group practice, is located at 505 Gordon Avenue in Thomasville. Led by orthopedic surgeon, Nicholas Richardson, MD, the practice specializes in treatment for general orthopedics, arthritis, sports injuries and fractures. It also offers robotic-assisted joint replacement.
