Pros
Great company benefits, people and product
Kontras
I decided to join hackajob over another company because of the speedy interview process and how they portrayed the company culture. I even picked this one over another higher-paying one, for these reasons alone. All I can say is WHAT. A. SHAME. Everything started well but digressed horrendously. Things soon started to become apparent as time went on. 2 months into my role, I was encouraged to apply for the SDR Team Leader position alongside everyone on my team. I expressed my concerns about not having a chance considering only having been there briefly but was assured that this wouldn't go against me. I applied and shock - they used that exact excuse as the reason for not getting it even though I had a vast amount of SDR experience so ended up being a complete waste of my time and hopes. The SDR role, although well planned out and easy due to the set-up, was demotivating, required zero creativity on your part and did nothing for your brain/future career due to everything being automated/written out for you. Successes would be down to luck entirely as everyone was sending the exact same message out. Promises of progression were given but were never delivered. The company values included Trust & Transparency among others but these were the two that stood out as being the most untrue. The Awful Part... After much talk and work towards series b funding, the CEO made the abrupt decision to let go of around 25 staff just after the Christmas break. The way they went about it was disgusting. They pulled the entire company into a virtual meeting and told everyone to 'watch out' for an email within the next 20 minutes or so which would inform you whether you have been affected or not. Imagine the panic distilled across the whole company. They then proceeded to reel off the same 4 bullpoints to each individual in the meetings throughout the day. Another kick in the teeth is later learning that they did in fact receive the £25M in series b funding. This is not the first time they had made redundancies and that seems to be a reoccurrence. During my time there I saw a lot of people join but equally a high turnover too. It seems you have to be pally with the management/CEO to get anywhere at hackajob. I noticed that there was a lot of biased hiring and decision-making going on.
