Pros

I was blessed to work with some incredible people at Transverse. The majority of my there it truly felt like everyone was a family. One of the few companies that care about the individual on not only a professional basis but a personal one as well. I have not yet seen from any other employer to date. They are not your typical startup and have a very 'rock and roll' attitude with how they run their company (I state this in the most positive light). Jim Messer the CEO is quite a character, and wonderful person to work along side with. Its very rare to find a CEO that gets his hands dirty with day to day operations and wanted nothing but the 'best' for his crew. You can tell he not only cares about the well being of the employee but their family as well with one of the most generous benefit packages you can find. Chris Couch is a brilliant COO working along side with James, taking an opportunity of their experience to fill a rather large void in the billing market. Even though they are very different individuals personality wise - there is a most complimentary nature of their partnership. Its also very rare to find executives that are truly passionate about creating the right culture and product for the companies and employees success. The experience gained and relationships made at Transverse helped springboard me into an executive based leadership role. Without this valuable time there, I would have not personally and professional been prepared. . In my time there I was never so dedicated to a company, product, and people. This is about the culture created from both Jim and Chris and crew. The people at the Austin Headquarters are some of the best I've had the pleasure to work with, and will miss them dearly on a daily basis. Its rare to find a place to where you WANT to wake up and go to work.

Kontras

Positives aside there where many instances of constant frustration from conflicting management styles (worked under four different managers in less than two years). Every manager I've personally worked under lacked leadership skills and offered little to no direction to the employee. There was nothing in defined ways for career advancement. Human resources did nothing to resolve harassment issues pertaining to profanity and unethically based behavior from a sales employee (over the course of several months). The former CFO and VP personally apologized numerous times but nothing was resolved. Even after the other sales person undermined the entire sales support staff with negative communication in front of the entire company. Even the most passionate employee would begin to wane in their dedication do the constant negative wave of unresolved conflict. This is after all channels of open, and professional communication where exhausted - HR failed tin this regard, but more than likely did not fully understand the gravity of the situation and legal definition of a 'hostile work environment'. Take this what you will.

Pros

Intimate, small business where you have plenty of access to decision makers. Rock n roll frat house vibes, CEO has a huge vintage rock concert poster collection around - really pretty cool if you're into that. Don't try to drink any of these guys under the table LOL. A few women on staff in junior roles who know their place. Work/life balance is great if you get on CEO's good side. Moved to a new, smaller office last year, so that was nice.

Kontras

15 year old SaaS company with a couple dozen small enterprise customers and about half that in annual revenue. Very lean, all development outsourced to a Ukrainian shop. Tiny sales team and no one doing marketing. Owned and kept on life support by a German family built on a coffee monopoly so no real accountability and no adult in the room to check exec egos. Not growing, has lost great customers in the distant past like Snowflake. Thin veneer of credibility bought from joke analyst firms and exec's longtime roots in telecom. Still hasn't managed to finish updating the *UI* after 6-7 years of trying, customers have to toggle between two platforms to do basic things. No attempt at upgrading broken reporting module (some open source thing literally called Pendeho hahahahaha this is actually true). Give em a pass, wish I had.
