Pros
- Great people: Talented, warm & hard-working people from all walks of life.
- Contribution: It's a small team, which means that every voice counts. Management is super open to hearing ideas from everyone and the best ones are executed without ego. Zero bureaucracy.
- Interesting work: When I was there, we tackled a lot of interesting projects in different domains.
- Opportunities for growth: Effort & merit get recognised quickly (and often publicly).
Kontras
These aren't cons so much as just "the way things are:"
- Pressure: Lots of work, often under a deadline, but that's also the nature of the big data business.
- Constant need to learn new skills: Ever-evolving nature of social media & big data means that you will need to pick up new skills constantly and expand your toolset. If you come into this company expecting to "coast" with the skills you already have, you're going to have an unpleasant time.
- Independence: There is an expectation that you will get your work done on time without managers/co-workers constantly checking in on you.
