Pros

Retail experience in a busy, large store.

Kontras

God where to start! I worked at the Bourke Street store in Melbourne, Australia. - HIGH turnover rate (was there for 4 months and had at least one new group of managers whilst I was there - about 7?) Full timers always leaving cause the hours there are bad, casuals always leaving cause why bother. - Stressed and over worked team leaders, probably not treated with respect by their own managers, so where usually hard to ask for help from. - One Induction shift of 4 hours (2 hours of actual information/training before they put you on the floor). Had to learn a lot as you go, which is usual. - NO DISCOUNT. I'm a casual, so my rates where better. But to work there during sales and not get anything? They say they don't do it cause we wear a uniform to work so they're not exactly concerned with you wearing their clothes, but it's not just that. If I had one I would have stayed a lot longer, or actually bought stuff. Across the road Sportsgirl give you 30% as a casual. Myer and David Jones give you 10-20% depending on what brand. When you clothes come from a sweatshop you gotta step up your game Zara! - LACK OF COMMUNICATION! In my last 2 weeks there I noticed employees where wearing white shoes instead of the usual black. Chalked it up to a uniform change that was just never told to me. They email us our rosters. Couldn't have put it in there? Same with codes on the staff room doors. And the machine we used to sign on and off a shift not working one week and working the next. - On the topic of uniforms, they're meant to provide it for you although as long as it's a white top, black pants/shoes(?)/blazer it's fine. I was not about to buy a blazer when they gave you one, right? Nope, 4 months NEVER got one. "We're waiting on a shipment". Ok. - Managers either didn't personally care and lacked passion (I mean it's retail, of course), or where weirdly condescending. Made me a tad bitter. Like, "hey manager you're new and I've been here 3 months, let's not pretend greeting customers at the door is a thing we've ever done and is therefore a thing I'd ever actually do." It's not a place I'd recommend to friends looking for a job. It's fine if it's temporary and you're traveling and you don't NEED consistent hours but I was SOO happy to leave and be done with it. Retail can always be unfulfilling but there are better companies out there.

Pros

There aren’t many pros, pretty chill coworkers I suppose

Kontras

Managment is a mess, filled with people who really don’t know what they’re doing and they have empolyees who’s sole purpose is being on their phones and not working, the “GM” is a wreck and doesn’t know how to properly soeak to people as she believes she’s above everyone, and regional isn’t much better
