This company is a disaster. I joined after the company had done massive layoffs in 2022, and people were still feeling the effects well into 2023. I had assumed the worst was over once I had joined, and that the company was stable and that we could focus on our work. Roles continued to be made redundant left and right in an attempt to cut costs since the company makes no money. It seemed that every single day there was a post in the People slack channel saying someone was fired or someone was leaving under their own power for other (better) opportunities. These departures strained bandwidth to the max and made it so difficult to stay organized and focused. Nobody knew who was the next to be fired or who on their team was going to be fired. Onboarding and HR in general is a nightmare. Insurance is the most expensive I have ever seen at a tech company. There have been 3 different Heads of HR in a 3 month period. The most egregious offense of all: their official onboarding documents said that my health insurance would start immediately when I started, when in fact coverage really started the month after. I had to cancel all my regularly scheduled appointments that month and make sure that I had enough medication to last until my benefits started. I played it off as a simple mistake, but it was a truly pathetic showing and should have been the biggest reg flag of them all. If you can’t do small things right, how can you accomplish anything sizable? There is an inherent conflict of interest with the CEO and Chief People Officer being married. Once again, another red flag. Career growth is nonexistent. Promotions are given to people who happen to stick around in this environment the longest. The salary is many thousands of dollars lower than any other tech job you will find. As I mentioned before, they would rather fire you and replace you with someone cheaper than promote you or give you an industry standard wage. Employees will have good performance reviews and get fired the next day under the guise of “Not being the right fit”. They will fire you right before the end of quarter / benefits enrollment in the USA to save costs and make their balance sheet look better. Bottom line: I feel like I made a huge mistake believing in this company and accepting this role. I regret not being more diligent and finding a company on more solid footing. If there is smoke, there is fire.
