Pros

They are constantly looking to improve their product, which provides a lot of opportunities to contribute ideas, implement processes, and provide feedback. They try to do frequent Q&A's with the CEO so people can bring up questions or concerns. There are frequent team outings like ping pong tournaments or happy hours. Unlimited vacation and sick time policy.

The leadership team is very young and inexperienced. Their goals are set only in short-term - everyone is basically just working month-to-month with no real idea for what the goals are in the long term. The end of each month is chaos trying to reach goals, and then it resets at the beginning of the month. They pulled people from the jobs they were hired for and career paths they want to temporarily do another job since they didn't forecast far enough in the future and plan staffing accordingly. The work expectation is very much an "always-on" mentality, with leadership checking in with employees at 7 or 8pm to see who is still in the office, or announcing that they expect everyone to be in the office for extremely long days until they reach the goals they've set. Working remotely is frowned upon, and employees are expected to be in the office even while sick unless they are physically unable to work. The office has a bro-y, toxic culture, ranging from men tossing a football around the office (even after knocking a glass of water on someone's laptop), goals and data being presented using sports analogies, and sexist comments being ignored by nearly everyone. Leadership tried to address sexism but due to their inexperience, sexism continued. Communication is a big pain point due to their systems not being built out well - likely why they require everyone to be in office and discourage working remotely. Much of your day is spent asking people questions that could easily be answered if the system was built out better, or having people interrupt you to ask similar questions. Overall, not a good place to work. I recommend checking out H.Bloom's Glassdoor reviews as well - founded by the same person with some of the same people on the leadership team, very similar issues from employees.

Since seeing this post, we have had open conversations with every member of our team to discuss the very important topic of equality in the workplace. Although the allegations in the post were not substantiated, they have highlighted for us that we need to continue to work hard to make Worksmith a productive, safe, and welcoming environment for everyone. Clearly it was not perceived as such for the author of this review, and for that we are extremely disappointed. Worksmith is committed to building a diverse team and inclusive culture. Our leadership team is 50% female and 50% male. Our entire company is 42% female and 58% male. We are proud of the work we have done so far to build an inclusive company environment, but we know that we have more work to do to continue to promote diversity of culture, race, religion, age, and more. Further, we are dedicated to building a team of individuals who uphold our shared values of caring, curiosity, candor, collaboration, and serving as catalysts for change. We believe strongly that together, we can build something great.

Pros

The atmosphere at this company was young and vibrant, I made friends their instantly, however, this is not unique to Austin due to the rapid growth of the city. Great location, the office was in the city centre, I'm not sure where it is now, but it was awesome for getting out into Austin after work.

Kontras

No real direction, the company feels more like a passion project rather than something that will grow into a thriving unicorn business. I would advise against buying shares.
