Pros
WPI is truly a community and, although politics are present, it's better than most places. The benefits are good - free tuition at WPI or tuition reimbursement at another school, 403(b) with matching, generous time off (better for salaried employees), and communication is good. Kontras
The pay is less than in a corporate environment, but that's to be expected in academia. Politics did play a role in the promotion of managers to higher level management; however, there is some room to advance and move into management and/or to make lateral moves. Unfortunately, there are are professors and management who generally treat you badly and, due to tenure or a good relationship with upper management, they'll be there forever, but I found it was better here than most places I've worked.
