I wish I had heeded the advice of other glassdoor reviews before taking this position. Let's start from the beginning...training. The CEO offers the training and has no nutritional background. Things he said were outright wrong. They brought a nutrition person on board to do part of the training as well, but it felt that she was simply using the CEO's old power points. The whole 2 or so weeks of training were all over the place. They instituted a new role to save the company a buck by having one person do two jobs (member enrollment and coaching) for the price of one. I understand growth and change is necessary; however, it became very clear that this move was not well thought out. The company barely piloted the position before launching full scale into it. So this meant that the new hires for this new position ended up being the guinea pigs. It was a sales job masked as a nutrition role. You spend your day tied to a desk for sometimes 10-12 hours making phone calls. You are not evaluated on how well you care for your clients but strictly on sales numbers. As for the coaching side of it--no room for growth. You really end up being a glorified hand holder for members spewing out the same things over and over again. I am not even going to get into the holes in the dietary protocol.... When it comes down to it, this company is all about money and less about the well-being of their employees and the clients they serve.

We welcome constructive feedback regarding roles at WeightNot, and we are sorry that a position at WeightNot was not a good fit for you. That said, it is important to correct at least some of your misstatements for the purposes of accuracy. As for training -- the training director at WeightNot is an accomplished, published PhD and professor/researcher at two of the most prestigious university nutrition programs in the U.S., and the training materials for WeightNot were developed over several years and are based entirely on third party scientific research -- it is common for those with undergrad nutrition degrees not to have covered much/most of the advanced material in our training. We have no interest in or gain no benefit from teaching inaccurate information, and we are always interested in improving our curriculum, but are unaware of anything that is "incorrect" with the nutrition science we present, particularly given that we constantly survey literature for new research on all of the topics that we teach. We would certainly welcome any specific items to review should you have any --but your general statements are simply ad hominem/personal attacks without any substance or support. As for our dietary protocols -- WeightNot has served over 20,000 members, refining our nutrition guidelines continuously throughout. We are unaware of any "holes" in our nutrition plans, but again would be happy to hear any specific feedback you may have beyond this general statement. As for your position -- the role that you were in was not designed to save money, (it saves none) but instead to create more continuity between the initial enrollment process and ongoing coaching for members. Staff are scheduled for 8 hour shifts on the days that they work, not 10-12 as you suggest -- and as all staff are remote and log into various systems to conduct their work, we happen to know with certainty that staff do not regularly or frequently work more than their scheduled 8-hour shifts, including trainees/new hires such as yourself. Working from a home office does indeed require that you work at a desk -- the positions at WeightNot are not "work from anywhere" jobs, as is made very clear for all prospective staff in our job descriptions, offer letters, policy manual, training and numerous other documents you received. This expectation is no different than for most other professional jobs at other employers where one is expected to be at a corporate office or other work location -- if like yourself, someone does not want to work at their desk, then a position at WeightNot would not be recommended. As for the coaching role -- you should know that coaches work with a portfolio of members to support their weight loss and health improvement efforts over many months (or even years) -- and undoubtedly some of these members deal with similar issues/questions/challenges as they progress. That said, we do not belittle our members by analogizing them to children as you do in describing the coaching process; we are in helping roles that we truly enjoy, and an attitude of superiority or disdain as you have expressed toward our members is simply not tolerated at WeightNot, and certainly reflects an extremely poor fit with our values and culture. We hope that you find a position that is better suited to your skills and perspective.

Pros

Excellent pay. I enjoyed working from home. Directors and CEO's were great leaders.

Work hours do tend to be long with minimal breaks, however, they did cover this during the interview process and job description. Employment is contingent upon passing a very long exam. I wish I would have known this before I was hired, I would not have taken the job. This caused a lot of stress. There are consequences if sales goals are not reached - yet one more thing that was not covered in the interview and hiring process. I was under the impression this was a counseling position with a bit of a sales component. I was not told it was a HUGE sales component with sales quotas and consequences that came with it. You will receive a lot of criticism in regards to your work, character, personality and many other areas of your demeanor and work ethic. Constructive criticism is great but there is a fine line between that and being plain rude and talking down to an employee.

During the multi-week training process for new hires, WeightNot administers a number of evaluations to ensure that staff have mastered the foundational information and skills for their positions. Depending on the role, these will include quizzes, tests, written assignments and role plays. The quizzes and exams are open book and new staff are provided ample time to complete these exercises, so this is typically only stressful for those who do not pay attention or do not take notes during training sessions, or who fail to review written training materials or study in advance of these evaluations (for which the subject matter is made very clear). We do take a rigorous approach to training, reflective of the expertise that we want all of our staff to possess in order to best serve our clients, and for those truly interested in nutrition and health, this is a huge plus and a major reason to join WeightNot -- not a reason why they would otherwise decline a position. To the extent that someone is uncomfortable with or unenthusiastic about learning in general or specifically in the area of nutrition or physiology, then certainly WeightNot would not be a good place for them. WeightNot hires for two primary roles -- Enrollment Specialists and Coaches. While both positions involve some amount of sales, revenue generation through new enrollments is the primary responsibility of Enrollment Specialists (as specified by the job title and job description, as made explicit in the job interviews and offer letter, as noted in the very first line of the performance evaluation forms which are distributed prior to the first day of training, and as made clear in so many other ways that are too numerous to list.). There are also different qualifications for these two positions, most notably that coaches are required to have a nutrition degree so that they can properly advise members during their programs, while Enrollment Specialists generally have some amount of sales or membership enrollment experience. For someone to be unaware that they were hired into an Enrollment Specialist job with revenue responsibility is frankly impossible to imagine, short of simply failing to read their job description and failing to pay attention in their interviews. Not only do we "mention" the duties of Enrollment Specialists relative to Coaches during the interview process, we provide this information in writing in numerous formats. WeightNot treats all staff as professionals who seek to continuously improve upon their skills and performance. Feedback to all staff (new and tenured) is highly structured and exclusively job related, and could include areas such as communication skills, energy level and engagement with members, productivity, attendance, use of technology and more. We have a dedicated training manager and team leaders who work to help staff master their responsibilities and improve performance on an ongoing basis. For those who are unable or unwilling to incorporate constructive feedback or are uncomfortable with evaluation of their job performance, WeightNot would again not be a good match. Overall, WeightNot prides itself on providing prospective hires with clear, comprehensive and detailed information about the positions they are considering, as well as in providing professional and constructive feedback to all of our staff. Our goal is the professional success and growth or our team members, and we work quite hard to realize this goal every day.
