Pros

- mission driven - for the most part, wonderful coworkers - cool projects - nice office space for a local media nonprofit (if not a bit corporate-y)

Kontras

- under-resourced and under-staffed at lower levels of the company, leading to poor work/life balance and stressful work environment for employees (in some departments) - senior management / directors that do not seem to understand how lower or mid-level employees do their jobs, or where media is headed, leading to unrealistic expectations - poor institutional reaction to a company-wide call to meaningfully promote equity, diversity, and inclusion

Pros

Everyone loves the mission of the company and genuinely likes the work they do

Kontras

The office is empty most days, if you're looking to interact in person.

Pros

You will meet some talented people doing all of the grunt work. Decent benefits (although they’ve gotten worse and worse every passing year)

Kontras

Management is asleep at the wheel and is often rewarded with raises and promotions for keeping the lights on. Meanwhile, low level employees wages are stagnant (raises were frozen during Covid but never came back for us). They would rather hire “consultants” for 100k+ a year so that they can tell them how to manage the company. If you are a young person looking to get a foot in at a media company, this is not the place for you. You will be disregarded and probably stay in an entry level position for years and years, it will not be a net benefit to your career.
