Pros
Good benefits, sick days, vacation, overtime opportunities which are not typical in a food service environment. Opportunities for advancement are available if working at the right dining hall, and if performance is exemplary. University offers tuition compensation programs for all salaried employees (with approval from management) Summers are very relaxed since students are gone, and winter break is essentially optional if you have enough vacation. Imitate a student's schedule.
Kontras
Salaries are much lower than in private sector, somewhat acceptable due to the low cost of living in Blacksburg but one would think that the best university dining program in the country would pay a little better. Getting beyond a Food Production Supervisor and into management is fairly difficult, requiring years of commitment or previous experience.
