Pros
Good, driven people get an incredible amount done and care about the quality of their work and their teammates. That is all.
Kontras
The aforementioned people are driven into the ground, metaphorically, of course. Hourly rate, salary, and benefits are mediocre (or nonexistent) for the Bay Area. Many people I worked with had multiple jobs to get by. Some benevolent being(s) decided a restructure, new system implementation, warehouse move, and significant layoffs all during the height of COVID-19 on a ridiculous timeline was a good idea. This was extremely toxic, stressful, and an unhealthy environment to create when people (yes, human beings) were going through so much already. But it’s ok, they handed out a single “mental health” day. I’m sure Bob Cratchit rolled in his proverbial grave and kicked his heels in glee. It’s been stripped of all the company culture that existed in the 2010s and prior to the acquisition by Caleres. There seems to be little interest in ensuring their Bay Area HQ retains any culture or competitiveness. I witnessed a general lack of understanding of and disinterest in how Californian businesses should operate. Why not give it one star, I hear you not ask? Well, if you can manage to stay focused and not fall into the constantly looming vortex, it can be a stepping stone on your personal yellow brick road. No exit interview (I left for greener pastures). I could go on, but alas…
