Pros

Pretty chill office right in downtown SF. Delicious lunch. 401k matching.

Kontras

If you are looking to join Unity as a software engineer. Consider a couple facts. - There is no growth for individual contributors at Unity. There is no Staff or Senior Staff level. If you don't want to step up and become a tech lead (aka manager), you will stagnate and so will your compensation. - There is no leveling or it is not disclosed to most employees. HR is really bad at this. - Software engineers don't have much of a say. Many passionate and technically adept engineers have become dejected because management has treated them as no more than a cog in a wheel. - Teams live in its own bubble. They don't share knowledge or best practices with other teams. It sucks because one of the goals of cross functional teams is knowledge sharing. But, what happens here is that different teams repeat a different version of others mistakes. - Poor management and lack of direction. If you think that you are going to make something out of those stock options soon. Think again. And after that, think again twice. - Onboarding procedure is very disorganized or it doesn't exist. People have to hunt down others to get resources and help. - Suffice it to say morale is pretty low right now.

Pros

Very little positive to say. Nice in office lunches. Peers are certainly passionate, but seem to work 10+ hour days and take pride in being on early and up late every day.

Kontras

Onboarding was a disjointed mess, with sessions led solely by my manager. Outdated resources from 2019-2023 used for training. Severe lack of coherent materials to reference. Unclear strategy, talk tracks, playbooks. Frequent role churn which was not made transparent during the interview process. Team operates so far outside of the core Unity product. Frequent reorgs and restructuring. No real idea how my role impacted the larger business. Unity’s adtech products are ultimately very uninteresting. Can’t speak to sentiment about working with their core product, but if you have to sell iAds, Tapjoy, Offerwall, or Aura (their most mind numbing product) - don’t waste your time.
