Pros
- Awesome studio and vibe, it's laid back and comfortable. - Great people, there are so many employed there that you have plenty of chances to meet people you click really well with. Met some of my best friends there. - Relaxed and easygoing. Probably depends on discipline/team, but generally speaking Ubisoft doesn't require backbreaking work or tight deadlines. Work/life balance is great. - Job security. When I was there, Ubisoft made a real effort to retain people even when projects got downsized or canceled. You'd go to Interproject and wait for another team to pick you up.
Kontras
- Nepotism. There was a huge problem with teams having cliques of directors who were not great but got there because of nepotism. - Bloated teams. On one of my teams we had 5 directors reviewing the work of 2 artists. - Stagnant career progression. I had great reviews every year from my managers, several times specifically calling for me to be promoted, but never received a pay increase of promotion. - Pay. My salary was quite low, especially considering my experience in the industry. It was enough to live comfortably in Montreal however.
