      Pros

      The Byrd Institute is doing some groundbreaking research in neurobiology. They're well-equipped with modern research technologies and highly intelligent scientists. The environment is very professional.

      Kontras

      However, they treat their undergraduate research assistants exactly as what they are, the bottom of the food chain. Undergraduates are evaluated based on their immediate ability to contribute something to the lab, and are not given as many opportunities to improve and succeed as I have seen in other labs that I have worked in. When a research assistant no longer seems valuable, they are quickly replaced by another applicant.

      Pros

      Amazing opportunity for undergraduate students to apply what they are learning in the classroom. Very hands on and the organization is flexible with your school/work schedule.

      Pros

      The Byrd Institute does everything from drug discovery in a test tube, to animal testing, to full-scale human clinical trials. Exciting work and great people.

      Typical academic pay. Not much else to say but I have to have 20 words to finish my application to glassdoor dot com.
