Pros
The pay. The Carriers and your fellow non-career PSE's.
Kontras
The hours: Anything goes. Two hours is all you are guaranteed for a shift. But, you may have to work eight or more depending on your office. The split shifts: Suck eggs. Your whole day is ruined when you have to be there at say 6AM, leave at 8AM, only to return at 2PM to work until 6PM. Working every Sunday: Why would we work on Sunday when there is no mail delivery? BECAUSE AMAZON. End of story. The constant schedule changes: Leave at 7PM the night before having to come in at 2AM. Or, you will get a phone call on your day off. Never make plans, unless it is during your break in service. Management: A joke. Local postmasters have no say in how their office is ran. There are no leaders, mentors, or training for new employees. Everyone is baptized by fire and a lot of people just burn. Double standards for career and non-career: Expect to have more job discussions, meetings, rules, and policies all because you are not career. The union: Is really there to protect the status quo. They did win a bunch of things for PSE's in the new contract this year, like 6 paid holidays, a small raise, and a simplified pathway towards career status. However, don't expect much support. Grievances take forever.
