Pros
Decent pay potential with overtime. Some coworkers are supportive and willing to help. Federal benefits can be good if you’re able to stay long enough to qualify.
Kontras
Extremely poor management and lack of support, especially for new Rural Carrier Associates. Training is inconsistent and often inadequate, yet expectations are unrealistically high almost immediately. I experienced ongoing micromanagement, public criticism, and scheduling changes that felt retaliatory after raising concerns or struggling early on. Workload is excessive, routes are frequently understaffed, and you may be placed on unfamiliar routes without proper guidance. There is little regard for work-life balance, and communication from supervisors is often unclear or dismissive. Accountability is one-sided—management behavior is rarely addressed, while employees are blamed for systemic issues. The environment can feel hostile, stressful, and discouraging, leading to high turnover. Many new hires quit not because they can’t do the job, but because the support simply isn’t there.
