Avoid. Don’t become seriously unwell. Claim to be employee centric but show little or no regard for their staff. - Anonymous bei Think Jam: Mitarbeiterbewertung

Pros

Mostly friendly ground level staff, if a bit cliquey. Clients are big names in the film industry. Supportive atmosphere amongst lower level staff.

Kontras

While I was working at the company I became gravely ill, and they refused to budge on the 10 days sick leave. While I was later granted extra days, this wasn’t without a fight from my line manager, as I wasn’t capable of negotiating. I have it on good authority that the HR director said I ‘could have been off for a month with a chest infection’, and that ‘if they bent the rules for me, they’d have to do it for everyone’. My situation was much, much more serious than a chest infection. When I returned to work, I ended up being pressured into coming back too fast, setting myself back in the process, eventually leading to me quitting my job. Management paid me very little regard outside of lip service, and while I was told I could ‘just work my contracted hours’ (thanks), my workload was not reduced accordingly, meaning I had to cram the same amount of work into 2/3 of the time. Despite claiming to be ‘employee centric’ they treat their staff like total garbage when they need support. It’s an insult. I’m now at a tiny agency where their policy is 4 weeks full pay, which has been a god send following a relapse. It also goes to show that the ‘businesses need to make money’ argument doesn’t hold any water, especially on a company of Think Jam’s scale. Other than this, the workload was unmanageable, and there was very much a culture of fear. Members of the PR and Social team were often in tears. There’s very much a client comes first attitude, no matter how daft or unrealistic their request, or how much stress it puts on the team. One director in particular was a bully, but a ‘golden goose’ to the CEO, so never saw reprisal. I was required to sign a waiver to the EU working hours regulation on joining. They’re very legally savvy. It was incredibly top heavy, lots and lots of managers and directors, very few staff to actually do the work.

Pros

I have been  in PR for over 15 years and worked at several different  agencies, including small start-ups and large corporate firms. Think Jam is by far my favorite experience. While no agency is perfect, I found the Think Jam culture to be one who actually strives to put their employees first (something I had not experienced before). The team is knowledgeable, welcoming and hard working. The overall office vibe is happy, collaborative and non-restrictive, you are free to create your own hours as long as you are communicative and get your work done. The executive staff (mostly women in the LA office!) is very hands on with accounts and employees ensuring that everything is handled to the client standard but also that individual employees do not feel overwhelmed. Unfortunately my time was cut short at Think Jam due to the pandemic when my position became redundant with the current state of the business (the Entertainment Industry had come to a screeching halt). Think Jam was completely transparent the entire time with all employees on the state of the business, the timeline of potential tough decisions and all efforts being made to save as many employees as possible for as long as possible-- there were no surprises. I know many people in this industry who lost their job due to the pandemic and no other agency handled this very difficult and very delicate situation with the transparency and care that Think Jam did. I remain grateful--  It's also the only place I have ever worked where it was completely acceptable and encouraged to go see a movie during work hours! Key Take-Aways: - Salary is competitive - Work/ Life balance (European vacation days, flexible hours and Summer Fridays) - Great benefits (the least I have personally paid at any agency) - Management that actually cares about employees - Transparency with employees on the business

Kontras

One suggestion that I would make is to have more sub-titles between the Publicist, Manager and Director roles so that employees have more consistent upward mobility and motivation to continue to rise in the ranks.

Pros

Snacks. There is nothing else good.

Kontras

They run the LA office like a monarchy. Theres a few British people they moved over so they could have anchor babies that are the only people they treat with any respect. Everyone else isn't of value to them and its set up to have 90 percent of their team stay at junior level with junior pay. They make it seem like there's the ability to grow but there isn't. They would rarely give promotions to anyone not from England. They tell everyone they can't give raises but then the owners of the company will come over rent a convertible Porche and throw parties for themselves celebrating how well they did each year. He would throw celebrations for himself for doing a bike race and marathon and wants everyone to make a big deal about his achievements. Lacking any self awareness at all. Total narcissist, it's kind of scary. It feels like the LA office exists so they can say "we have offices in the USA" but all significant projects go to the UK office. They had a "office" in NYC lol. It was one person at a Wework station. Since leaving and working at other agencies in LA I was able to see what a sham this place is. I do not recommend working here. They will work you to the bone for little compensation and they're rude and cold. It was so depressing being in that big open floor plan room with all these people silently working late hating their lives. There was always a collective feeling of depression and hopelessness. If you're reading this and work there now GET OUT NOW. There is something better out there for you.
