Pros
Best reason number 1: The Roeper Philosophy. A philosophy of education, in and of itself, is unusual. Among schools, Roeper's philosophy is particularly distinctive, involving preparing children for life, for contributing to the world in positive ways, and for respecting everyone they encounter along their paths. It calls for personalized education, learning in and outside classrooms, using the students interests as the curriculum, and many more ideas that are rarely found in schools. Having worked in many schools during my career, I found it helpful to have an explicit, documented philosophy against which to check my professional perceptions and decisions.
Kontras
Downside number 1: The salaries are ridiculously low. Teachers' salaries are notoriously low in general, I know. However, this school is at the vanguard of education. It ought to make increasing teachers' salaries a high priority.
