Pros

Reading about work done on Superfund/CERCLA sites.

Kontras

The salaries are some of the lowest in the industry and employees are treated like commodities. There are no opportunities for advancement. There is no training program for the junior and mid-level personnel due to the pressure to remain chargeable. Chargeability goals are set impossibly high (over 95% for most staff including seniors). Managers have responsibility but no authority and are expected to be a minimum of 85% chargeable. This results in a very long work week - 50 to 60 hours+ in order to complete admin duties and meet the chargeable goal. This company is an EPA contractor. The work entails review of CERCLA work conducted mostly on military bases. There is no field component at all, this is cubicle review of work done by the military's consultants. If you are looking for any type of field training or experience, this is not the place to get it. Junior and mid-level personnel are sacrificed (fired) when work slows down so that senior managers can keep their jobs. This is not a place where those with other options stay for long. There are far more people who have left this company than currently work there.

TechLaw has a long history of selling professional services to the federal government. These efforts routinely result in long, well-funded backlogs of work in the environmental field. Currently, TechLaw is in possession of over $80 million in federal contracts over the next seven years, all funded to allow for ongoing work. In addition, our performance evaluations are consistently in the range of "very good" to "excellent." We are confident in our ability to maintain this track record moving forward, based not only on our past experiences, but also due to the strong team of bright, dedicated scientists and engineers who make up our team. It is certainly fair to say that TechLaw's marketing and business development efforts in areas beyond federal contracting are less advanced and not quite as successful. Given that we've been working to develop and maintain our federal and state client base for 30 years, compared to just three years in the private marketplace, this disparity is certainly, in my mind, understandable. TechLaw, like any professional services firm, is only as strong as the people who provide its consulting services. Therefore, we work hard to hire intelligent, hard working people looking to make a difference both at TechLaw and in the world around us. We encourage like-minded scientists, engineers and regulatory analysts to join us as we continue to grow our business.
