Pros

- Pay was decent. - Problem space was interesting and tooling was good. - Practically unlimited AI allowances, lots of opportunities for cowboy vibe coding.

Kontras

- Management is incompetent. Besides two rounds of annual layoffs, there was never any clear product direction. Massive bets on contracts that weren't renewed, hiring people just to lay them off a couple months later, total fly-by-night vibes. - Questionable security practices around customer data handling. - One member of the C suite would sometimes talk about bodily functions and their dating life during meetings. - CEO spends a notable amount of time on social media engaging with tech celebrities rather than running the company. - Most coworkers were great, but brilliant jerk behavior was totally allowed to thrive. - Classic unlimited PTO scam - they say it's unlimited but really there's a cap and they absolutely tracked it. - Long-term viability seems uncertain given the pattern of decisions.

Pros

The thoughtful, intelligent people (what's left at them, considering there was two rounds of layoffs). The remote-first culture was the best perk, and working alongside talented, capable, driven individuals made this company a stand out. The initial vision of the company to disrupt and innovate an archaic industry truly felt like you were on a team with great purpose.

Kontras

Red flag after red flag that kept compounding during my time there. While it is normal for priorities and technologies to shift at a start-up, Sure's longterm vision, for lack of a better word, absolutely lost the plot. During my time at Sure, it became apparent that Sure's methodology is throwing "stuff" (using a more civilized word in lieu of what I really want to say) at the wall and seeing what sticks, whether it be technology or partnerships. I can barely recognize what the company has become. There's been a really big push for AI-first solutions, effectively letting go of a large majority of the company who helped build it up. It's even more insane that they are still hiring amidst the 2nd layoff. As many reviews have echoed, I have no idea what's keeping Sure's lights on at this point. If you are thinking of applying, even out of desperation for the job market's current conditions, DON'T. Value yourself and your time more, avoid this sinking ship at all costs! You don't want to be around when this dumpster fire implodes.
