Pros

Free healthcare, free small breakfast & late dinner (after 6:30pm), free Christmas present (usually a kitchen or house gadget worth about $200), some teamwork, nice cafeteria but with subsidized pricing.

Kontras

Benefits: Long working hours (9am-7pm), low salary with 2-3% increases per year, no 401k matching, no pension, 2-weeks vacation (regardless of how many years worked). Only 2 days of bereavement leave and 3 days of jury duty leave...shows you how much this company cares for the country and its people! Almost no career growth that requires CEO approval and extremely hard go up the ladder or even to another department. Not enough parking spots either. If you have a personal issue (that you cannot state), they will overlook that as well and not accommodate for your needs. Culture: Strict Taiwanese-culture, almost-always hire Asians and and rarely other races, and very low morale. Don't speak Mandarin? Good luck...it's the preferred choice of language over English. You will be looked down upon if you don't speak Mandarin. Only those that speak Chinese are favored. Be careful of gossip too because it travels fast to management. Too much men in the workforce and a huge lack of women, the difference is overwhelming. Some departments give laminated "awards" or "certificates" for "Most Proactive", "Most Innovative", "Most Hard-working" and "Most Improvement" per quarter. Get any 3 of these in a year and you get promoted; this facilitates competition and no teamwork within the department. This award system is bogus! Management: Bad piss-poor management that OVERLY micro-manages, too many over-lapping tasks with other personnel, managers talk crap behind your back, extreme lack of communication, CEO dictatorship (no one ever really approves of him), tons of finger-pointing while CC'ing top managers for no reason, and tons of schedule delays for failing to delegate work correctly and people making many mistakes. Managers will breath down your neck everyday because "everything is a priority". Too many managers to list here. Job: Major lack of training and Supermicro will only give you the minimal tools you need to survive, but NOT thrive. Applying to a specific job title? I will tell you straight-up you won't get it on day 1, but you will get the one below it and they will tell you "let's see how you do first". The company is severely understaffed - for the first time, they laid-off twice in 2020. Being understaff means a lot more work for current personnel and new hires, which will result in much longer working hours with no compensation. Management will also try to make you work on Saturdays (no compensation for this). Pandemic: During this COVID period, the company has not been considerate of people's needs. Supermicro has been heavily fined for violating rules of the Santa Clara county. Here are some examples: -people not wearing masks when sitting in their cubicles. -meetings held in conference rooms at regular capacity. -people with symptoms bypass the temperature checking stations. -managers require you to go to office, operating at 75% capacity even if you're not required to go in, as a sign of pride and support. Overall: It's been a very long time since I've worked for this company, but skillful and wise people leave from here. Supermicro is known as a stepping-stone company to be where you REALLY want to be. Even if you get a job here, learn what is useful, take it and leave. Keep looking around because anywhere else is better than this toxic place. The company doesn't even list ANY mission or core values on their website, only focusing on products and not people!

I have enjoyed working in the Supermicro IT & DataCenter infrastructure group. It's an exciting opportunity to be directly involved in some of the most impactful trends in the industry, including AI infrastructure, liquid cooling, high-density computing, and next-generation data center design. As an IT Director focused on Applications and data center infrastructure, I have been able to work with talented, dedicated engineers and business leaders to meet complex customer requirements. The company moves quickly, embraces innovation, and provides opportunities to make meaningful contributions rather than getting lost in layers of bureaucracy.

Kontras

The pace can be demanding, and priorities sometimes shift as the business continues to grow rapidly. There are times when processes, tools, and organizational structures are still catching up to the company's expansion. Success often requires flexibility, a willingness to take ownership, and the ability to navigate ambiguity. Employees who prefer highly structured environments and clearly defined boundaries may find the pace challenging.
