Pros
Fantastic place to work. We're a young enough company that the people are here because they believe in the mission, which makes for a very vibrant environment. I've worked at big companies, and the people here have more diverse backgrounds. They're all here because they care about writing. The engineering is also much more fun than at big companies. If you want to make a change or add an API, it's not weeks of approvals. You can just do it. I debated for a long time if it was worth leaving the familiar comfort of the big companies, and my only regret is that I didn't join Substack a year or two earlier. Many of my favorite writers write for Substack, and the media regularly writes stories about us. It's an exciting place to be.
Kontras
Not all the perks you'd expect at Facebook or Google. Not shabby, by any means, but not the outright pampering you get with FAANG.
