Pros

Remote work, Semi flexible, decent benefits. Travel. Most of the employees are awesome.

Kontras

You will not do the work you were hired for in your job offer. You will not be paid commission on a regular basis and they will make every excuse as to why you’re not getting paid your commission. Sometimes you won’t even be paid your regular salary on pay day or several days after. The company gives you no resources to do your job well. No SOPs, no documentation, everyone does things differently and there is zero organization or structure at the company whatsoever. The boss, who micromanages both work and customer communication and doesn’t want decisions made without her approval will leave on trips every month or so for days at a time after starting projects with tight deadlines and handing them to you with no context or notes and then will blame you for them going wrong. You will regularly witness the boss talk poorly about employees and vendors both behind their backs and directly to them. Pay is salary but you are treated like an hourly employee. You have to keep track of your time, even if you finish all tasks for the day, you are still expected to work. You are expected to take PTO for days partially worked. They have no problem with making you work 10-11 hour days if needed but will lose it if you finish your work in 6-7 hours you will be reprimanded. The lack of respect for your time is honestly mind blowing sometimes. She will request to have meetings with you or vendors and be 15-20 minutes late regularly without notice. When she does give you notice, she will push the meeting back over an hour total but in 15-20 minute increments so you are just sitting in calls waiting for her. If you have plans going on outside of work hours, there will be issues with the owner about it being problematic for the company. If you have to travel for trade shows, good luck. Flights and accommodations are not made usually until a few days before the shows and there is no amount of communication or follow ups that will help. Return flights are also usually booked day of or day before flying back. It is extremely difficult to plan for travelers not because sometimes you won’t be notified until a few days prior to you needing to fly out. In regards to comments from Specworks about previous reviews and that the owner has stepped down and has had another person filling in for her role, it’s simply untrue. It is still Corina at the head of things and trying to shift blame away from herself. This company is so hard to put effort into. The lack of resources, structure, and ability to work without being told you have to keep margins 20% lower than industry average or having to get all approvals through the owner for orders and not getting responses from her for days on end until they become emergencies or even being made to stay up until or wake up at 3 am to work on a project for a client in Europe that she started really killed what motivation I did have while working there. There is little to no benefit to you at all for the required extra work and hours. Overall, maybe 2/10 experience. If you are serious about working in the industry but also serious about boundaries and having your time respected, this is not the place for you. There is no accountability from the company for issues that have been the regular for years, any advise or requests to iron out easily fixed issues are ignored. As the title says, maybe don’t apply.

“Great things are done by teams, not individuals.” We hear you. A workplace without respect, clarity, or leadership is unacceptable. Innovation demands trust, mentorship, and vision—none of which come from micromanagement or fear. That said, accountability runs both ways. True growth requires every team member to own their role, seek solutions, and push through challenges. Startups—and even established teams—don’t always follow a perfect script. Sometimes, roles evolve fast. Sometimes, the boundaries blur. That’s not chaos—that’s opportunity. Your feedback is a call to action. We’re committed to building structure, clear processes, and a culture where people are empowered—not controlled. Thank you for your honesty. It’s how we learn, evolve, and push the world forward.

Pros

SpecWorks is the kind of company where creativity actually matters. Every project for a client is different. One project will be sourcing branded apparel for a healthcare company with 10,000 employees, and the next you’re helping design an entire online store for a startup. The leadership team is getting better and they genuinely care about helping employees grow. You’re given freedom to bring new ideas to the table and the team celebrates wins together. The culture is fast-paced but people here take pride in doing excellent work for clients.

Kontras

If you prefer a super corporate environment with rigid processes then this probably isn’t it. SpecWorks moves quickly, so you need to be comfortable juggling multiple projects and staying adaptable. I enjoy it but some people might struggle with it depending on their personality.

Pros

remote work is literally the only positive thing from this company

Kontras

There are many cons, so I will do my best to condense the amount of text. The first thing is that the boss wrote the five star reviews. You can tell based on how they are written. The first point is the lack of structure. This company has no hierarchy whatsoever. The boss runs the entire operation and micromanages everything. You are not given any training and are expected to know everything based on first glance. There should be guidelines or handbooks on how stores are managed and run. The second point is the boss herself. She is the worst boss of all time and her idea of leading is to scold and use negative reinforcement. She is mentally abusive and more than eight former employees feel the same way I do about how verbally abusive she is. She consistently threatens your job and will never help you even if you ask a simple question. It could be an easy yes or no question, and instead of answering it, she gets mad that you asked and says something smug like, “Well, what do you think the answer is?” She talks poorly about you to your face, to vendors, and to other employees and thinks this behavior is appropriate. I have personally received multiple inappropriate emails and texts from her that no professional boss or human being should ever send to another person. Lastly, everything is just poorly run. There were multiple times when we were not paid on time. She would make flimsy excuses for why payroll was late and take zero accountability. She makes false promises about commission payouts and changes the rules because there are no handbooks that outline how much you should be paid. From my experience, she changed my role within the company multiple times to do things I was not hired for. I was hired to do one job and she turned me into a warehouse cleaner. Her warehouse belongs on an episode of Hoarders. It has boxes from sixteen years ago. My last day was spent driving a Uhaul for her and moving boxes into a storage unit. This was the most humiliating thing you could do to someone. I was hired as a project manager, not a cleaner. In conclusion, there are far better companies to work for. This boss is the worst in the business and I strongly recommend that if you are considering working here, you do not do it. It is not worth the mental abuse you will face. PS This is a small business and more than eight people have left within one year. If that is not a red flag, I do not know what is.
