Pros

-You can learn a lot about media -Work with cool companies/brands

Kontras

When I started a few years ago, the culture was cool and people worked hard but that has quickly deteriorated. VPs and above have (and have had) little understanding of what company does, and so the general direction of org has shifted frequently. They over-invest in pointless initiatives and don't listen to advice or perspective of executing mid-managers. The company continues to add aspects to the business with … little to no experience or qualification in doing so, namely, the tech aspect (no one uses this, native tools are better) and creative content (this team is a waste of resources.) Overall: -Lack of qualified leadership -Leadership lacks any emotional intelligence -HR is a black hole -Marketing doesn't exist -Company doesn't invest in ancillary teams so they disappear (really talented team members have left due to lack of support and gone to amazing companies.) -Serious violation of nepotism clause -Remote workers rarely contribute but continue to advance, unfair policy -HUGE GENDER PAY GAP! Multiple examples of this and many people have left because of it. -Snacks are not "surplus" and are not good. -401k plans are nothing -The only value on work/life balance is for men who have families (the only ones who don't get dirty looks when they leave at 5) -Did I say gender bias? -Gender bias.Show More

Pros

Fun work culture! Free snacks every day and catered lunch on Wednesday! Opportunity to work with top companies around the country!!

Kontras

Sometimes hours can be a bit long during the holiday season but ample time off is given in January to account for it

Pros

-You will learn an incredible amount in a short amount of time. -Co-workers are generally smart, collaborative, and easy to interact with.

Kontras

SocialCode was once a good place to work. Sure, the pay wasn't that great, the benefits were solid but not spectacular, and the work/life balance was sub-par. This was offset by the awesome co-workers, the tight-knit culture, and the opportunity to grow your career in a relatively short amount of time. The company had a sense of direction, there were some good members of leadership, and while very few people saw SocialCode as a company to work for long-term, people were reasonably content. Over the past year and a half or so the experience of working at SocialCode went into steady decline. The pay became even more subpar, the work/life balance deteriorated even more sharply, the quality of the benefits declined somewhat, the good members of leadership left, and the company repeatedly changed direction. The constant trickle of turnover that is always present at an agency transformed into a stream. Over the past 6 months or so the company has entered a full-blown tailspin. The company's strategy has lost all focus and direction. Internal declarations and initiatives have become a farce. The stream of turnover has become a flood. All the best people at all levels of the company have either left or are seeking other opportunities. Graham Holdings is tightening the funding stream, perhaps unwilling to continue subsidizing an unprofitable firm. My advice for those who still work there - time to make other arrangements, if you aren't already. My advise for those considering applying - I don't recommend it. You're 3 years too late.
