Pros
Snap has seen a great deal of transformation over the years. It has transcended from a relatively little known social media platform into a brand that's recognized by households and advertisement leaders worldwide. The leaders are brave, and in the face of volatility and question, they've managed to hold up their beliefs and maintain some degree of stability. The company has faced dozens of macro headwinds and managed to stay relevant and truly prosper at times. As an employee, it is possible to make great contributions, meet great people, and also make a good deal if you're in the right place.
Kontras
I think the main con for working at Snap is volatility, both from a compensation standpoint and career standpoint. Since Snap does pay top dollar in the market for its talent, it can always choose to hire externally for leadership positions and your position. What that means as an employee is that it's very easy to be pushed out. If that means Snap wants to hire a tech lead from Google, have her come in and hand over your scope to her new hires, then throw a fit and barrage you on her way back to Google, that's fair game. If that means you're the only woman in a team of male engineers and suddenly they want to say you're less technical and lack skillsets based on hunch, that's also fair game. Despite all the efforts to set values, there's really no rules. If you are considering a discover engineering offer from Snap, really consider whether the risk of being different is priced into your offer. At the end of the day, with high turnaround, perception is really important at Snap, and unfortunately the way you look and the language you speak may have a greater effect on whether you can keep your job than your actual contributions and skillsets.
