Advancement isn't merit based but rather how easy you are to control, and how much the manager likes you. Unpaid overtime will be subtlety hinted at. If you are not in the games group you will not be given any form of advancement. Management will ghost you after your tenure. If you request a letter of recommendation, they will not respond at all, letting your deadline go past. No matter your engineering skills, kissing up is the best thing that you can do.
