Pros
Intense focus on keeping the company's culture as we grow. That culture, based on our 4 H's (happy, humble, hungry, honest), ensures that the person sitting next to you is one whom you respect and enjoy working with. Senior leadership is world class and unusually transparent about what's going on. The vision is spot on and execution, which is already good, continually gets better. The environment is one in which each individual is empowered to make decisions in their area of expertise. One person can have a huge impact at SendGrid. The level of talent at this company is amazing and the problems we work on are challenging/fun. We have over 100k customers, more than 40k of which are paying customers. Our revenue is growing over 40% y/y and we have crossed through to profitability with an IPO on the horizon.
Kontras
Hiring is slow, largely due to the focus on culture. It is really hard to find people who are exceptional at what they do AND who show their humble 'H' daily. As we grow, quick ad hoc processes and manual steps become a liability. Expect a lot of change as we continue to transition to a company that is more methodical. If you're willing to be an agent of that change, you'll do very well here. SendGrid was formerly very flat in its organizational structure but the recent growth has necessitated a more traditional management structure. This has led to some role confusion and general discomfort.
