Pros
-Quick Advancement from lower levels (if willing to put in overtime). -Nice Coworkers (mostly younger new grads). -Paid training and license. -Health Insurance and 401k. -Supervisors are mostly nice and often endure the same struggles with the busy season as you will. -Friendly and quick IT services. -They will hire just about anyone with a degree. -Remote work.
Kontras
-Demanding culture. Overtime is quietly expected from everyone. Supervisors may not demand it but they will suggest it as the only fix to your stressful workload. -If you do not work overtime during busy season you will not be looked at for higher positions. -Supervisors are overworked and cannot assist as often as needed. -Routinely understaffed (Auto insurance has a busy season in the summer, they staff to just cross the line of acceptable handle times during non busy season so busy season is very hard) -Salary is not competitive (below average for claims adjusters). Small performance raises each year - between 1 and 2% if you are an above average performer. -Messy Career Ladder. There are not verying levels of adjusters apart from switching departments, i.e. no adjuster level 1, 2, 3). You get paid the same even if you close twice the claims as an average adjuster. -Specializes in high risk drivers. Customer base on average has less coverage than they know so there are many verbal altercations you will be involved in daily. -High turnover. It’s not surprising during busy season to see half of your training class quit within 30 days. -Expensive health insurance. -They will hire just about anyone.
