Pros
This job is not for everyone. That said, I enjoyed my experience at SET.
My advice to someone considering applying is to have a clear understanding of the kind of work environment you personally perform best in. If you’re a self-starter who’s comfortable with a large work load, quick turn arounds, and a work-in-progress approach to operations, you will have a good experience. If you prefer established SOPs, consistent expectations, or generous timelines to flesh out creative projects, SET likely isn’t your best fit.
In my time there, I witnessed genuine interest from the company to act on both employee and community feedback in order to improve. It’s clearly a work in progress, so it’s important to be to clear on whether you’re comfortable joining a business in a new stage of growth and development or if you’d be better off somewhere more established.
Kontras
I came into this role with ample experience in DTC beauty and fashion, so the high demands and sometimes disorganized work flow didn’t come as a surprise to me. However, I do think that this could be a difficult job for an intern or someone early-on in their career. Because things move so quickly there isn’t a ton of room for thoughtful training or career development. Daily to-do’s, product marketing, and sales goals take priority over employee development and retention. I relied almost entirely on the skills I’d honed in previous jobs in order to succeed at SET.
