Pros
An engaging co-working environment with really smart people who are willing to ask questions and actively seek growth opportunities. I have learned a lot about what it means to be a good co-worker, employee, and contributor to the nonprofit sector in my role. Leadership works to hear from folks at every level of the organization when considering and making decisions that impact the larger organization. The larger organization continues to have internal discussions about what impact we want to have in the nonprofit sector and how to make sure our work centers equity and meaningfully engages the community. My supervisor has been very supportive, invested in my personal and professional growth, and genuinely has my best interest at heart. My workload has gradually grown over time to allow me to focus on and take on more in aspects of projects that I find the most interesting. My work-life balance has been, on the whole, really great! Even in the midst of COVID-19, leadership provides us with opportunities to take time for ourselves. They have been encouraging and flexible.
Kontras
Sometimes the workload can be a lot. Sometimes there are big pushes that cannot be avoided. From time to time, it's difficult to distribute tasks in a way where the majority of the work in a project does not fall on junior staff. Senior staff is receptive to hearing when things are challenging, but sometimes those conversations do not result in changes to the behaviors that led to the unequal distribution in work. There are not many opportunities for promotion within the organization.
