Pros

Here in Cambridge ON RA manufactures MV drives and starters which is very interesting products. There is tons of work since they are selling like crazy. There is lots of hands-on work and possibility to get exposed to real work even as a young engineer. There is quite a lot of people that spent their whole career there.

Kontras

Horrible pay that reflect local conditions and doesn’t take into consideration bigger cities that area around. Lately there is more of an American approach in firing people with higher salaries, some very valuable people were let go just because of the money they were making. There is a lot of talk about shifting production to Mexico, China and Poland. Long term production might be severely downsized. Long term they will probably be specialty drive manufacturer and support centre. Stupid evaluation system that bonuses are based on put a lot of stress on employees.

Pros

Great environment with focus on culture building. Projects are laid out well so no hectic schedules. Great work-life balance. A lot of veterans who you can learn from.

Kontras

Sometimes difficult due to teams that are outside of US so sometimes could be slow while waiting for other teams to report back.

Pros

Solid compensation: Good benefits, mid-range bonuses (when available), pension & mid-range RRSP matching. Decent vacation but it doesn't increase until you're there 15 or 20 years. Smart people: Working with long-standing teams of software developers and the controller engineers is great. Sophisticated and complex challenges regularly. Implementing AI: They're being very considered about how they implement it & doing it at a measured (not slow and not slam-it-in) pace.

Kontras

Process: It's highly, highly process-driven. The layers can feel burdensome. Bottom line: They're chasing it with work being moved from North America and Europe to Asia and South America. There's definitely an old boys club and lots of references generalizating and comparing generations. Environmental policy contradictions: They say they want to be environmentally friendly, but have imposed RTO & are only hiring within commuting range of offices.
