Large companies by way of inertia prefer to hire large or renowned PR firms, thus often snubbing small agencies or independent consultants. In return, they receive a mediocre service at best for a sizeable monthly retainer. 'Independents' deliver better results faster and cheaper. Have to do go out and fight for clients, but gives an invaluable business development and client relations experience.
