Pros
Recovery InSight is an ideal team environment for a Certified Peer Support Specialist. There is great support available from supervisors and coworkers. I enjoyed every peer (client) I had. At the time I worked there, we did our own scheduling of peers. It was great to feel trusted and respected. At the time I worked there, all they did was peer support. They are very focused on providing wonderful service to peers. Knowing your company is excellent at what they do is very satisfying. Having a focus in your area of expertise gives a higher level of mentorship than you would get if you were working for a larger company where peer support is only a tiny bit of what they do. They also understand the needs of Peer Support Specialists and a high enough volume of peers (clients) to have a fullfilling case level without being overwhelmed. They are sensitive to the needs of their employees and an open door for you to ask questions. The benefits were great and we had off most holidays. Coworkers were very friendly and helpful. The office has a nice atmosphere and they have a sunny room with at least four spacious desk areas for use if you need to do paperwork at the office. They also have connections with community resources and it is neat to be aware of what is going on in Lancaster and Lebanon county as far as mental health is concerned. They have a library of resources and have handouts for your use with peers if desired. There are also professional growth opportunities.
Kontras
They will communicate what you should do and mentor you but you really need to be a self starter who follows up on peer (client) phone calls, is punctual for appointments and is able to work independently when not at the office so if that is not your preference maybe this isn't the best fit. You are compensated for your mileage and time driving, but it is a mobile position so you do a fair amount of driving. I didn't mind but it is something to consider, especially if you don't like driving.
