Pros
Staff at the regional level are really hard-working and mission driven. They care really deeply about the students and about ensuring that the AmeriCorps members have a great service year.
Kontras
As with many non-profits, the salary is totally unacceptable given the expectations of the role. A lot of the success the program, which depends on many different pieces falling into place, lies heavily on the Program team who are usually stretched thin (due to budget/hiring constraints) and it's really hard. To be clear: the work itself isn't hard--navigating the day-to-day of the role is super challenging. Unfortunately, the support that the regions need to feel successful isn't there at the national level. Also, there aren't any opportunities for growth at this organization, and the shelf life for the Program Manager role is at most 3 years and that's pushing it because the burn out is real.
