Pros
The best reasons to work for Raytheon: 1. Exposure to top-of-the-line technologies; for those with backgrounds in software, computer, and electrical engineering, this place is heaven. You have the ability to actually apply your knowledge to real-world applications, as well as improve on areas of knowledge where you are lacking. 2. Tremendous opportunity for professional growth through continuous learning (rotations through new programs and assignments) 3. Management support of continuing education (e.g. tuition reimbursement if you get a B or better in your graduate-level courses) 4. Patriotism; the opportunity to "serve your country" by working on technologies used to defend the country, its allies, and resources 5. Stability and a steady paycheck; the defense industry will never run out of work. In a time when the country's economic woes are plenty, it is highly unlikely that there will be layoffs from the engineering-staff. Not only is the company's primary customer the U.S. Department of Defense, but also a plethora of government approved foreign/allied nations. Because of the balance between domestic and foreign military sales, you will never have to worry about not having a job or work. 6. Excellent benefits (health, dental, vision, retirement) including flexible work-hours. This helps with maintaining a "work-life balance". 7. The opportunity to travel to foreign countries (if you wish).
Kontras
There are not many downsides of working at Raytheon: 1. Although there is an ability for great professional growth in terms of learning and improving one's skillset, it is a slow process to rise through the ranks. Promotions can take a while, even if you are an excellent, hard worker. 2. All large companies have tons of bureaucracy, paperwork, and red-tape that need to be dealt with. You will spend lots of time in meetings in addition to spending lots of time working. 3. May not pay AS well as other companies. In addition, the standard yearly raise only matches (not exceeds) the increase in the basic cost-of-living.
