Pros

- Lovely group of colleagues - Great induction process - Progression and leadership training - Contributing to animal welfare

Kontras

- Culture of working long hours - Severely underresourced - please hire more people. The current structure is unsustainable and leads to high workloads and high turnover. It's sad to see that this has been commented on from previous employees back in 2016 and is still a problem. - Obsessed with meetings! Unfortunately within the Income Generation department meetings are constantly put in. Many of which are pointless and could be resolved with a quick email. Managers seem to encourage meetings which doesn't help. - "us Vs them" culture. Lots of finger pointing if things go wrong.

Thank you for your feedback and review. We recognise in order to deliver our ambitious goals we need to invest in our people. Not only so that we have the right number of colleagues to deliver the work but also that they feel engaged, supported and not overwhelmed by the workload. So your feedback is helpful, thank you. Now all our support staff are hybrid working facetime with teams and managers is more important which can unfortunately cause a high meeting culture. To counter this we have introduced a no meeting Friday approach to help give head space in the week. We are also actively recruiting within Income Generation to ensure we have the resources needed at the right times. Thank for for your feedback regarding the visits out to the Field, I will ensure this is also fed back into the management team

Pros

I had a great supervisor, Sally, who ran a tight ship but was also a friendly and helpful mentor and didn't get angry when I made mistakes as I was starting out. I got some experience stocking the shelves, interacting with a variety of customers, and learning the value of merchandise. There's also some opportunities to get cool books, etc. for low prices, especially if no one else wants them.

Kontras

I worked as a volunteer, since it's a charity shop, so obviously I didn't get paid. In addition, customers will sometimes have strong body odor, and like any customer service job, you just have to grin and bear it.
